[CS-Sprays] Spray Tutorial

Static CounterStrike: Source spray tutorial (using transparencies) :)

Welcome to my static spray tutorial, intended for Counter Strike: Source. The tutorial is written using Adobe Photoshop CS3.
You can download a demo version of Adobe Photoshop CS3 from our downloads section here

The other piece of software we will be using is SprayR, this can be downloaded here

Click here to download the sample PSD (Photoshop file) we will be using for the tutorial.
You can use your own image if you prefare.

Okay, lets begin.

Open Adobe Photoshop CS3, Once Photoshop is loaded, open the file sample.psd.

You should now see your image on the screen, also if you look to the bottom right of photoshop you will see the layers pallet as shown above
If you can't see the layers pallet, press F7

1. (layer 'Elvis'). This layer is the layer the actual Elvis Image (shown above) resides on.

Now we need to create a new layer (shown Below)
Click on the create new layer icon

You should now have layer 1 as shown below

Click and drag layer 1 underneath the Elvis Layer, so you have layer 1 at the bottom (shown below)

Next double click the layer 1 text and rename it to background (shown below)

We will now add some more new layers to our image to add some text

Create a new layer by selecting the icon as shown above.

Now you should have layer 1 has shown above.

Now we are going too add some txt using the text tool on the toolbar.
You'll find the text tool on the left hand side on the toolbar (see image below)

Select the text tool, then select your font and font color ( i chose #689afa and Claredon)
click on the canvas, now type what ever you wish
you should now have text like the image below and you layers should resemble mine

Now we are going to add some effects to the text using the layers panel.
Make sure your elvis layer is selected as below.

Press the little FX icon as shown above
From the drop down menu select drop shadow, then select ok

Now your image should resemble the 1 below

Now we will add some more effects to the text.
Click the FX icon again and select stroke
from the popup box select size 2 and choose your color (i chose white)
now your image should resemble the 1 below

Now we are going to add another new layer.
click the new layer icon again, now your image should resemble mine

Now we will add more text, select the text tool again, choose your font and color, then click on the canvas.
Now type your second layer of text, then use the FX icon to add drop shadow and stroke to your text.
your image should now look like the 1 below.

Now we are going to add another new layer
Click the new layer icon so your image resembles mine shown below.

Now we need to group all the layers together onto the new layer.
to do this we press the following buttons all together- SHIFT - CTRL - ALT & E
You should now see that the top layer has all the images together ( See image below)

Now we need to select the top layer to create an alpha channel.
to do this press CTRL and and click the layer 1 image with the mouse.
If you have done this correctly you will runing ants around your image (see below)

Now we need to create our alpha channel
Click the channels tab as pictured below, then click new alpha channel
now your image should look like this.

Now with your image selected and black, you need to press ALT & BACKSPACE
Now you should be left with this (see below)

now click back to your layers tab and click layer 1
Now you need to press CTRL & D to deselct your image and get rid of those pesky ants :)
You should now be left with the following

Now we need to color the background on our spray ( don't worry you wont see it in the game)
Click on the background layer, next select your foreground as highlighted (Select the color as highlighted #808080 - grey color)
next select your paint bucket tool as highlighted ( see image below)

Now with your paintbucket selected click on the canvas to fill the background of your spray
you should now look like the image below.

now we need to save our spray.
create a new folder somewhere and save the file twice
goto file then select save as, Save 1 as king.psd (photoshop file), press ok when the box comes up. (So you can make alterations to your file)
then save it again as king.tga.(Tagra File) select 32bit for the resolution ( see Images below)

Now we need to convert our spray to work in the game.
this is actually the easy bit :)
Open up your steam, start Counter-Strike: Source
Then go to your options screen.
Now press import spray in your options search for TGA file you just saved and select it
Steam will convert the file for you
(See Image Below)

Now go into the game and try your spray and abra cadabra there is your lovley spray.
